Description
Practitioner level :
This 24-hour (3-day) training course is designed for those wishing to undertake a high-altitude expedition (at any altitude), as well as for guides and companions. An extra day is also offered for those wishing to obtain the supervisor* level.
The aim is to gain a better understanding of high altitude in order to prevent and/or treat problems related to such an environment. You will become autonomous in your decision-making concerning health at high altitude.
Specific objectives :
- Understand the role and responsibilities involved in a high-altitude adventure
- To teach participants the various steps involved in organizing a trek: drawing up a schedule (vaccinations, medication, training, logistics, etc.); planning a training program; planning for the unexpected (insurance, emergency plan, etc.)
- Establish an itinerary that respects the rules of progressive ascent
- Introduce participants to the various hazards of high-altitude walking: what is high-altitude; determining climatological factors at high altitude; medical problems specific to this environment; medications used at high altitude.
- Introduce participants to high-altitude health management: use of the health logbook; use of acute mountain sickness self-assessment grids
- Introduce participants to specific high-altitude rescue equipment: portable recompression chamber; oxygen; saturometer.
- * Objectives for the additional day for supervisory levels :
- Understand the role and responsibilities involved in managing a group
- Introduce participants to the management and interpretation of each group member's health record (FOHA, Fiche d'Observation pour la Haute Altitude).
- Participate in case simulations
- Assess the participant's skills with a theoretical and practical exam
During this training course, you will be called upon to participate and actively exchange views with the instructor on the various topics covered. Numerous scenarios will be proposed. Most of the training will take place indoors, but some scenarios may take place outdoors. Don't forget pen and paper for taking notes.
Please note that when you book, you will receive unlimited access to the online training course Trek Expert from the Académie Haute Montagne. You will also receive the book Haute altitude, du trek à l'expédition 2nd edition, which will be handed to you on the first day.
